In August 2007, Deputy Charlotte Moore was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Although the charges were later dropped due to insufficient probable cause, she was placed on unpaid administrative leave and subsequently resigned. In December 2008, Elko County agreed to pay her a $30,000 settlement after she filed a claim challenging the voluntariness of her resignation.
