In April 2019, Chief Vanlandingham criticized the Henry County Sheriff’s Office’s handling of a traffic stop involving Amanda Mills, which was recorded and posted online. This led to a complaint against him, resulting in a ten-day suspension without pay for insubordination. Vanlandingham filed a lawsuit against the Abbeville Mayor and City Council, alleging violations of due process and improper disciplinary procedures. In April 2020, he was terminated from his position, which he claimed was retaliatory. ([casetext.com](https://casetext.com/case/vanlandingham-v-city-of-abbeville-3?utm_source=openai)
