On October 28, 2004, Deputy Sheriff and Florala Police Officer Chris Inabinett arrested Aaron Shaw and allegedly beat him without justification. He then transported Shaw to multiple locations, where further beatings occurred, culminating in Shaw’s death by gunshot. A lawsuit was filed against Inabinett and the City of Florala, alleging excessive force and wrongful death. The court dismissed the negligence claim but allowed the assault and battery claim to proceed, indicating serious misconduct.
