In 2017, Officer Chris Robinson was involved in an incident where he used force to remove a suspect, Mr. Hernandez, from his vehicle. Despite multiple verbal commands and physical control holds, Hernandez refused to comply. Officer Robinson deployed pepper spray and, after continued resistance, released a police dog to assist in extracting Hernandez from the vehicle. Hernandez filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force, but the court granted summary judgment in favor of Officer Robinson and the Town of Gilbert in 2019.
