In October 2021, while serving as the jail administrator, Porter assaulted a handcuffed inmate at the Crenshaw County Jail. He subsequently falsified a use-of-force report and provided false statements to state and federal investigators, claiming the inmate had charged at him. In January 2025, Porter was indicted on federal charges including deprivation of rights under the law, falsifying records, and witness tampering. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years for the civil rights violation, 20 years for falsifying records, and 5 years for witness tampering. His trial is scheduled for August 2025.
