In March 2018, Constable Christopher Bachochin, a volunteer with the Florence Police Department, was involved in a traffic stop where he shot and wounded Brandon Domonique Fludd, who was attempting to flee. Bachochin fired eight bullets into Fludd’s vehicle, hitting him three times. Fludd filed a lawsuit in March 2020, alleging excessive force and permanent injuries. The lawsuit also claimed that Bachochin was not properly supervised or trained by the city. Following the incident, Florence police decided to discontinue the use of constables for patrol duties.
