In October 2020, while serving as a deputy, Brooks confronted apartment complex staff over a maintenance issue. He brandished his service pistol and Taser, threatening the staff by stating, ‘This is the kind of mood I am in today,’ and sparking the Taser. Brooks was terminated immediately following the incident and was later arrested and charged with third-degree assault and battery.
