In November 2023, former Sergeant Christopher Meyer was involved in a use-of-force incident at a gas station where he arrested Cory Samek. Meyer punched Samek multiple times and took him to the ground after Samek refused to leave the premises. An internal affairs report indicated that the level of force used by Meyer appeared to be in accordance with LCSO policy and procedures. However, the report also noted that intervention by other deputies could have potentially prevented further injury to Samek. The incident raised questions about the handling of use-of-force situations within the department.
