On May 22, 2022, Officer Christopher Smith arrested Pastor Michael Jennings, a Black man, while he was watering his neighbor’s flowers. Jennings identified himself and explained his presence, but Smith insisted on identification. Jennings refused, leading to his arrest for obstruction of government operations. The charges were later dropped, and Jennings filed a federal lawsuit alleging violations of his constitutional rights, including unlawful arrest and emotional distress.
