CSPD Officer Colby J. Hickman was one of three officers accused of using excessive force against Dalvin Gadson during an October 2022 traffic stop — a case that led Colorado Springs to settle a civil rights lawsuit for $2.1 million in 2024. Bodycam footage showed officers, including Hickman, punching and kicking Gadson during the arrest, allegedly beating him beyond recognition and causing PTSD-like symptoms. While CSPD’s internal investigations cleared Hickman and the others of criminal wrongdoing, two of the three officers were nevertheless reprimanded internally for their actions, and Gadson’s lawsuit accused them of violating his constitutional rights.
