In April 2017, Officer Bush used an expandable baton and his boot to control an HIV-positive inmate who was self-harming. The department deemed his use of force unjustified and terminated him in August 2017. However, an administrative hearing later reversed the termination, citing inadequate training and lack of proper protective equipment provided to Bush during the incident.
