On October 8, 2011, Deputy Sheriff Craig Billings physically assaulted a handcuffed individual during booking at the Murray County Jail. Billings tackled the victim, grabbed their chin, and banged their head into the floor, resulting in a mild concussion and head swelling. He pleaded guilty to civil rights violations on January 11, 2013, and faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
