On November 9, 2021, Sheriff Craig Rowland confronted a church youth group delivering ‘thankful turkeys’ to his neighborhood. Believing they were intruders, he pointed a gun at the group, pulled the adult leader from the car by her hair, and threatened her. Rowland was charged with aggravated assault and battery, and exhibition of a gun. He resigned on August 1, 2022, and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and three years probation on October 25, 2022.
