Between February 2015 and August 2018, Officer Daniel Meister engaged in ghost employment by working overlapping shifts at Columbus Police Department and Columbus Regional Hospital on 52 separate occasions. He received compensation from both employers for the same hours worked. In 2020, Meister pleaded guilty to ghost employment and theft, resulting in a suspended sentence and repayment of $9,013.89 to taxpayers. He retired from the police department amid these charges.
