Officer Daniel Mendoza was involved in the fatal shooting of Andrea Churna on September 20, 2020. Churna, who was unarmed and had called 911 while in crisis, was shot six times as she surrendered to police. Her family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the City of Redmond, resulting in a $7.5 million settlement. The case is under review by the Washington police oversight agency.
