West Springfield police captain Daniel Spaulding was indicted in 2018 after an investigation found he had stolen over $17,000 in cash from the department’s evidence room between 2016 and 2017. He later returned the missing money, but in 2021 he was found guilty of using his official position to obtain unwarranted privilege (evidence theft) and faced sentencing for the felony conviction.
