In June 2024, Officer Darren Lee McCain was charged with misconduct in office for soliciting sex in exchange for money from women whose files he accessed during his tenure as an officer. Evidence found on his cellphone led to his admission of the crimes. McCain was terminated from the Sumter Police Department on April 17, 2024.
