In September 2018, Deputy David Boyd conducted a welfare check on Melissa Tyson, during which he made inappropriate sexual comments and coerced her into exposing herself, leading to his sexual gratification. Boyd had a history of sexual misconduct, including revoked ministerial credentials and prior complaints. In April 2019, he was indicted on charges of sexual assault, indecent exposure, and official oppression. Tyson filed a lawsuit against Boyd and the County of Sabine, alleging violations of her constitutional rights. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found that Boyd acted under color of law during the alleged sexual abuse, and the case was remanded for further proceedings.
