On March 3, 2018, Deputy David Jones, along with Officer Hensley, conducted a welfare check at a residence. They arrived without activating police sirens or lights and did not announce their presence. The resident, believing them to be intruders, answered the door armed. Without warning, Officer Hensley fired three shots, severely wounding the resident. Deputy Jones failed to intervene to prevent the shooting. The resident was charged with felonious pointing of a firearm, but the charges were dismissed as his conduct was lawful. A civil rights lawsuit was filed against Deputy Jones and others, alleging misconduct and inadequate training.
