In August 2021, David Lance Dukes was charged with assault after an incident on July 26, 2021, where he stomped on the head and neck of a man he suspected may have had a gun while serving with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety. Prior to this, Dukes was terminated from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office for creating a ‘hostile work environment’ and having an attitude deemed destructive to a team environment.
