In June 2022, Deputy Blake T. Sipple was involved in an incident where he detained a suspect, Robert Lee Daniels Jr., who fled on foot. Sipple chased Daniels through the woods and found him hidden under a patch of kudzu. Upon ordering Daniels to come out, Sipple tased him when he jumped up with his hands in the air. However, Daniels wore a thick Carhartt coat that shielded him from the taser. Daniels managed to escape, swim across a nearby creek, and remain on the run. This incident led to a civil rights lawsuit filed by Daniels’ family against Sipple and other officers, alleging excessive force and other violations.
