In 2004, Deputy Britt Simpson was reported to have harassed African American individuals in Brinkley, Arkansas, while off duty. He allegedly used racial slurs, conducted unauthorized searches, and displayed his badge inappropriately. The ACLU called for a federal investigation into these civil rights abuses. Simpson was suspended for 10 days and subsequently resigned from the White County Sheriff’s Office.
