On May 21, 2014, Deputy Schawbenbauer allegedly assaulted a detainee, rendering him unconscious. The detainee claimed that Schawbenbauer falsified documents to cover up the assault. The detainee filed a lawsuit against Schawbenbauer and other officers, alleging excessive force and false imprisonment. The case was dismissed in 2018.
