On October 15, 2019, Deputy Pesio deployed a K-9 unit to apprehend a suspect who had fled into a forested area after a car chase. The suspect was bitten by the K-9 and sustained injuries. The suspect filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force, claiming that Deputy Pesio’s use of the K-9 was unnecessary and caused undue harm.
