In November 2015, Deputy Collier conducted warrantless inspections of ‘The Pig,’ a business owned by Fuqua, where he observed firearms. These inspections led to a search warrant and Fuqua’s arrest for firearm possession. However, the court suppressed the evidence, ruling Collier’s searches violated the Fourth Amendment. Fuqua subsequently filed a lawsuit against Collier and others for unlawful search and false imprisonment.

Why This Matters

By organizing this data, we can potentially demonstrate when officers were previously aware of laws they later claim ignorance of, challenging qualified immunity defenses and promoting accountability.
