In August 2018, Deputy Edward Drewitz pursued Deandre McCollum, who fled during a traffic stop. After McCollum crashed his vehicle and fled on foot, Drewitz deployed his K-9 partner, Friday, who apprehended McCollum. Body camera footage shows that after McCollum was on the ground and handcuffed, Drewitz allowed the K-9 to bite him multiple times. McCollum filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force and violation of his Fourth Amendment rights. In December 2022, Racine County proposed a $120,000 settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
