Deputy Eli Max was terminated on February 19, 2020, following multiple incidents of misconduct. On September 19, 2019, he stopped Philip Colbert, a 22-year-old Black man, citing an air freshener obstructing the view as the reason. During the stop, Max repeatedly questioned Colbert about marijuana use without basis. In another incident on July 26, 2019, Max made a roadside bet with a trainee about finding drugs in a vehicle, leading to an unwarranted search. Additionally, on September 4, 2019, he arrested a sober driver for DUI after conducting field sobriety tests without reasonable suspicion. These actions led to his dismissal for ‘harassing and humiliating’ individuals during traffic stops.
