In June 2011, Deputy Eric Braathen used a Taser multiple times on rancher Rodney Brossart during a dispute over stray cattle. Braathen discharged the Taser at least seven times over six minutes, totaling 19-21 seconds of activation. Brossart filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force, but a federal judge dismissed the case in January 2016, stating that Braathen’s actions were reasonable under the circumstances. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the case in May 2018.
