In March 2014, Deputy Jeremy Rancher was involved in an incident where he discharged an X-26 Taser, striking an individual with multiple bursts of electrical current. The individual alleged that the use of the Taser constituted excessive force in violation of the Fourth Amendment. The case was brought before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, where the court examined the facts and circumstances surrounding the arrest and the use of force. The court considered factors such as the severity of the crime, whether the suspect posed an immediate threat, and whether the suspect was actively resisting arrest or attempting to evade arrest by flight. The court also addressed the defense of qualified immunity raised by Deputy Rancher. The outcome of the case included discussions on the reasonableness of the force used and the applicability of qualified immunity. The case citation is Bryant v. Greene County, Alabama et al, No. 7:2014cv00519 (N.D. Ala. 2014).
