On January 18, 2022, Deputy John Doe was involved in the arrest of a 16-year-old girl, during which excessive force was allegedly used, including repeated use of a Taser. A lawsuit filed in January 2024 claims that Deputy Doe and other deputies ignored signs of sexual assault and human trafficking, focusing instead on the use of force during the arrest. The lawsuit is currently pending, and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office has requested a review of the incident by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
