In 2014, Deputy Jones was involved in a case where he violated the open-door policies of a school, leading to multiple complaints. He allowed a student to share his hotel room during a school trip, resulting in an investigation by Child Protective Services, criminal charges, and the end of his tenure as a deputy sheriff. Deputy Jones eventually pled guilty to sexually abusing the student. A lawsuit was filed against Sheriff Wilkins, alleging liability for Deputy Jones’ actions under the doctrine of respondeat superior.
