In January 2018, Deputy Juan Rodriguez participated in the fatal shooting of John Bailon during an incident involving a stolen vehicle. Rodriguez and Deputy Joseph Rowland confronted Bailon, who attempted to flee, leading to the use of a taser and subsequent gunfire that resulted in Bailon’s death. Rodriguez has since joined the New Mexico State Police.
