On August 11, 2000, Deputy Dawson was involved in an incident where inmate Douglas Richer was physically restrained after a confrontation. Dawson grabbed Richer’s hair, punched him in the face, and assisted in subduing him. Richer alleged excessive force, leading to a lawsuit against Dawson and other deputies. The court denied summary judgment for Dawson, allowing the excessive force claim to proceed.
