In April 2014, Deputy Kimberly Farrell was involved in an incident where she and other deputies forcibly took down Philippa McCully, a 21-year-old college student, in a holding cell. Farrell grabbed McCully’s legs, causing her to slam onto the concrete floor, resulting in a torn ACL, knee fracture, and other injuries. The incident led to a lawsuit that was settled for $675,000 in 2018. Farrell was among the deputies named in the lawsuit, and some deputies involved were disciplined, though specific details were not disclosed.
