In June 2022, Deputy Michael Babino was involved in a DUI arrest where he allegedly used excessive force. He reportedly shoved a woman into his patrol car and later grabbed her by the throat, slamming her head into a door at Tri-State Memorial Hospital. In November 2022, he was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and placed on unpaid administrative leave. A federal civil rights lawsuit was filed against him, the Sheriff’s Office, and Asotin County in April 2023.
