In December 2021, Deputy Nicholas Veale, a correctional officer, allegedly struck an inmate multiple times in the abdomen while the inmate was restrained in a chair. Veale resigned the following day. After an internal investigation, he was arrested in March 2022 and charged with simple battery and malfeasance in office. His bond was set at $3,000.
