In May 2020, Deputy Nick Tuttle was involved in an incident where he used a stun gun without warning on Tyler Unique McClain, a Black woman who had crashed her vehicle and was disoriented. Prior to this, Deputies Brent Smith and Jonathon Outhouse had forcibly removed McClain from her car, causing her to fall, handcuffed her, and pinned her to the ground. McClain filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging excessive force and violation of her rights. The case was set for a jury trial in July 2023.
