In April 2014, Deputy Sean Grady was involved in the forcible takedown of Philippa McCully, a 21-year-old college student, in a holding cell. Grady shoved McCully’s left shoulder down and restrained her arms behind her back while other deputies pulled her legs out from under her, causing her to fall onto the concrete floor and sustain serious injuries. The incident led to a lawsuit that was settled for $675,000 in 2018. Grady was named in the lawsuit, and some deputies involved were disciplined, though specific details were not disclosed.
