In 2017, Deputy Selmanson was involved in the fatal shooting of Drey Krause. Deputies responded to reports of gunfire and approached Krause’s residence. Upon knocking and announcing their presence, Krause opened the door holding a shotgun. Selmanson ordered him to drop the weapon, but Krause stepped outside and raised the shotgun barrel toward the deputy. Selmanson fired three shots, resulting in Krause’s death. Krause’s family filed a lawsuit alleging excessive force and failure to administer first aid. The Ninth Circuit Court affirmed summary judgment in favor of the defendants on all claims.
