In March 2019, Sgt. Jenkins of the New Mexico State Patrol, associated with the Cibola County Sheriff’s Department, refused to take an incident report from the Mooney family regarding alleged harassment by Undersheriff Michael Munk. After being informed that the call was being recorded, Jenkins reluctantly agreed to take the report but only if the family visited his office the following day. This incident has been cited in petitions calling for investigations into police misconduct and lack of accountability within the department.
