On April 1, 2016, Deputy Sheriff Kurtzhals threatened a colleague, violating the Dunn County Workplace Violence Policy. He was placed on paid administrative leave and ordered to undergo a fitness-for-duty evaluation. Kurtzhals filed a lawsuit alleging discrimination due to his PTSD, but the court granted summary judgment in favor of the county, finding no evidence of discrimination.
