On April 18, 2019, Deputy Tawnya Sellers was involved in the intake process of Juan Anthony Sancho at the Jackson County Jail. Sancho was allegedly uncooperative, leading to a takedown by deputies. Sancho was then shackled to a floor grate for two-and-a-half hours. A federal magistrate ruled that while the takedown was lawful, the prolonged shackling raised questions about its necessity, warranting a jury trial.
