In 2017, Deputy Depew was fired from the Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office after using his squad car to follow his ex-girlfriend and misusing department equipment to run license plates of vehicles at her home. In 2021, while serving as a Jackson town marshal, he was convicted of simple battery for choking a Black teenager and using racial slurs during an incident at a convenience store. Despite these convictions, he continued to serve in law enforcement roles.

In July 2023, Deputy Depew was arrested and charged with stalking, marking his second stalking charge in six years. This arrest followed previous incidents, including his 2017 firing for following his ex-girlfriend using his squad car and his 2021 conviction for simple battery involving a Black teenager. Despite his criminal history, Depew retained his policing license and continued to serve in law enforcement roles.
