In January 2018, Deputy Tyler Sennett was involved in a shooting incident during a welfare check at the residence of Travis James Tolan. Sennett and another deputy arrived at Tolan’s home without lights or sirens. When Tolan, unaware of their presence, opened the door holding a handgun, the deputies fired, striking him in the abdomen. Tolan filed a federal lawsuit alleging excessive force, assault and battery, and negligence against Sennett, the other deputy, and Sheriff Mike Linder.
