In July 2012, officers, including Franklin, responded to a domestic violence call and mistakenly identified 17-year-old DeShawn Franklin as the suspect. They entered his home without a warrant, punched him, and used a stun gun. The family filed a lawsuit alleging constitutional rights violations. In August 2016, a federal jury awarded the family $18, assigning $1 for each violation per officer. The officers received written reprimands and additional training on Fourth Amendment rights.
