Desmond Barney, a former Jackson police officer, was indicted in 2020 on a second-degree murder charge for the January 2019 death of 62-year-old George Robinson, who died from a violent arrest. By then, Barney had been hired by the Clinton Police Department. During Barney’s 2021 trial, a judge found insufficient evidence and dismissed all charges against him (and a co-defendant) before the case went to a jury. After the dismissal, Barney continued to serve as a Clinton police officer.
