In the fall of 2014, Detective Allen Large initiated contact with a woman identified as Jane Doe-4, who was actively using heroin. Large visited her residence, took her to buy groceries, and later entered her bedroom, where he placed his service weapon next to her heroin needles and forced her to submit to oral sex. In the following months, he contacted her about participating in fights with other women, touched her inappropriately multiple times, and took her to purchase heroin, which she transported in his police vehicle. On September 15, 2016, the Horry County Grand Jury indicted Large on eleven counts of criminal sexual conduct and misconduct in office.

In June 2014, the Horry County Police Department conducted an Internal Affairs investigation concerning Detective Allen Large after a report from Jane Doe-1 alleging sexual misconduct. The investigation revealed that Large had paid for Doe-1’s prescription medications, frequented her home after closing her case, and called her mobile phone approximately eighty times between December 2013 and May 2014. Despite these findings, the investigation was closed as unfounded. Large was later indicted on multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct and misconduct in office.

In a deposition, Detective Allen Large admitted to asking crime victims about participating in ‘catfighting’ events, claiming it would help them financially. He described his interest in these fights as a ‘customer’ and acknowledged that other officers in the department were unaware of his involvement. Large also mentioned other scandals within the department, alleging affairs and misconduct by his peers. He was later indicted on multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct and misconduct in office.
