In July 2005, Detective Chris Cook reported observing Mayor Dave Kinskey drinking at a party and stumbling to his car, leading to a traffic stop perceived as politically motivated. Cook was offered a settlement to transition to the local fire department, which he rejected. Subsequently, he was terminated in April 2006 on the recommendation of the Sheridan Police Commission. Cook indicated plans to appeal the decision, underscoring the contentious nature of the disciplinary action.
