Detective Early filed a whistleblower lawsuit in January 2014, along with two other officers, alleging retaliation for reporting concerns about a fellow officer’s mental health. The lawsuit also claimed gender discrimination and a hostile work environment. Los Alamos County settled the case in February 2016 for $2 million and offered reinstatement to the officers, which they declined.
