Detective Phil Crawford was involved in a February 4, 2019, incident where he rammed a suspect’s vehicle with an unmarked minivan during a high-speed chase. After the suspect was subdued, Crawford was recorded making unprofessional remarks, including calling the suspect a ‘piece of s—‘ and agreeing with another officer to ‘fake it till you make it.’ These actions were deemed unprofessional and unacceptable by Sheriff Michael Smith, who addressed the issue with Crawford. No formal disciplinary actions were reported.
